Grace Connexion

Why Grace? Because grace lies at the heart of Christianity. John Wesley preached preeminent, justifying and sanctifying grace. As we learn about all forms of God’s grace, we build a relationship with God through love of Him, neighbor and self.

Why Connexion? Early Methodists called their groupings of societies, connexions. The traditional spelling is a gentle reminder of our ties with the values of our past and the importance within Methodism of connecting with God, neighbor and oneself.

Past programs have included a six week series on the spirituality of major faiths with speakers from the Black Methodist, Roman Catholic, Jewish, Muslim and Greek Orthodox traditions; psychology and spirituality with programs on discernment, calling, gratitude, forgiveness, guilt and acceptance, and happiness; building healthy relationships; controversial issues; and a Charles Wesley Hymn Fest in celebration of his 300th birthday.

" World Religions” Series

January 9 - A video that provides an overview of the world’s major religions, along with a brief examination of other religions.  Questions that will be addressed include:

• Why are there so many different religions?

• What are the different ways to view other religions?

• Why is it important to understand different religions?

January 16 - As part of our annual observance of Human Relations Day, Dr. Saud Anwar, a medical doctor and founder of the Muslim Peace Initiative, will preach at our morning worship and lead the Grace Connexion session on Islam.

January 23 - Sarah Tunney, a professor of Middle Easter and Islamic Studies at New York University, will cover the history and development of Islam and its relationship to Judaism and Christianity.

January 30 - Willard (Bill) Hass a follower of Sri Chinmoy, the Indian spiritual leader who promotes meditation, will discuss the Hindu religion.
